In-house Experience
John Burchill qualified as a Barrister in 1986 and after a short period of practice at the Bar became an in-house lawyer. He worked for more than 15 years in this role for a number of leading businesses including the following international ‘blue chip' businesses:
During this time he developed an instinct for what businesses expect from their lawyers and uses this expertise in his role at The Legal Director.
He has particular experience of the following

- international work – John worked in Amsterdam for 18 months while at Eaton Corporation and has advised The Body Shop and other clients in relation to international trade agreements and franchising.
Increasingly John spends much of his time co-ordinating and providing strategic legal direction to businesses. He usually operates at Board level working with Chief Executive's, Finance Directors and other directors and senior managers. He also has extensive experience of working with leading UK law firms and uses this experience and his contacts within the legal industry to recommend the best legal support for The Legal Directors clients.
Throughout his career John has advised on legal issues in relation to life assurance, pensions, unit trusts, outsourcing, insurance, motor component manufacture and engineering, professional services, human resources, Information technology, marketing, cosmetics and food. Therefore, his expertise is transferable across most industry sectors.
