We’re thrilled to announce TLD’s new charity partnership with TackleLondon 🏉
TackleLondon is the flagship programme of the The Matt Ratana Rugby Foundation named for the police officer killed in the line of duty in 2020, and it’s helping young Londoners positively connect with their community and themselves.
It started with us backing their Awards Evening in May – a night celebrating 36 young people from schools across Croydon, East Grinstead, Oxted and Bromley, recognised not just for their rugby but for resilience, respect, discipline and teamwork. Watching that room made one thing obvious: this is exactly the kind of partnership we want to be part of.
As our founder, Ed Simpson, says: “At TLD we like to support charities where we can make a meaningful difference, especially where our team can get actively involved in supporting a cause they are passionate about. I’m a big rugby fan so when a good friend told me about TackleLondon and how it is using rugby to transform the lives of young Londoners affected by adverse childhood experiences I immediately wanted to know more about it. From my work with another South London mentoring organisation I know the positive power that mentoring can have for disadvantaged young people and tying this in with rugby sessions struck me as a brilliant combination. With the right coaches and environment, rugby’s values of hard work, discipline, responsibility and teamship can build confidence, resilience, a sense of belonging and a strong connection with a player’s community. I’m looking forward to helping promote the fantastic work of Tackle London, and seeing what it does at first hand.”
Our charity-of-choice partnerships matter for numerous reasons:
→ They give our people a reason to connect beyond client work, through volunteering, mentoring, fundraising → They bring visibility to young people whose stories rarely get told → They connect our UK-wide network of lawyers and businesses to the real, weekly impact of grassroots community work → And they build the kind of culture we actually want to work in
Ian Braid, Director at the Matt Ratana Rugby Foundation, says, “None of what we do would be possible without partners who back us properly, and TLD has done exactly that.”
This is just the beginning. We’re already looking at fundraising, volunteering, storytelling, and more ways for our whole network to get involved.
Looking forward to working closely with the TackleLondon team – let’s get cracking. 💪
