Andrew spent 20 years as General Counsel at some of the UK’s most distinctive businesses: ASOS, Berry Bros. & Rudd, Bristow Group. In that time, he noticed something consistent: the businesses that handled legal issues best were the ones that thought about legal early, built strong commercial relationships, and treated legal as a business function rather than a safety net.
That’s the philosophy he brings to his work at The Legal Director. Andrew operates as a genuine senior business partner — embedded, proactive, and commercially sharp — helping leadership teams see what’s coming before it arrives, and navigate it confidently when it does. He’s as comfortable presenting to a board as he is rolling up his sleeves on a contract.
What makes him different is what he doesn’t do: he doesn’t default to worst-case analysis, over-engineer topics, or treat every issue as a huge risk. He fully understands that constraints of time and money demand prioritisation, and he is fully comfortable making that happen. His instinct is always to find the outcome that works for the business and the relationship, and to do it without unnecessary cost or complexity.
He has operated at board level throughout his career, is experienced across the full range of commercial, governance and compliance matters, and brings particular depth in businesses that are scaling, restructuring, or navigating significant change.
