Six hundred laws timetabled for revocation by the end of 2023
At the end of the Brexit transition period, all EU law that applied to the UK was retained as domestic law. The Retained EU Law Bill was intended to enable the government, via Parliament, to amend, repeal and replace this legislation.
The bill originally included a Sunset Date of 31 December 2023, by which all retained law would be amended or revoked. Critics of the Bill voiced concerns about this date, and on the 10 May, the government announced its plan to scrap this deadline and replace the current sunset with a list of the retained EU laws that the government intend to revoke under the Bill at the end of 2023.
