TLD can help...

At TLD, our lawyers support many businesses of different sizes. Whilst we often work with businesses who either don’t have an in-house lawyer or have a small team which may be stretched, we can also support larger, in-house legal teams experiencing resourcing issues.

There are many reasons why you may be needing extra help. Perhaps a team member has left, or you are in a recruitment period but haven’t yet found the right candidate. Maybe you need holiday cover or are working on a specific project which cannot be efficiently resourced within your existing team. Or you may be impacted by family leave – maternity, paternity or SPL.

If any of this is true for your business and you’re wondering how best to resource that gap, TLD can help. Client Legal Directors – Dagmar Kibble and Rachel Webb-Wiles answer your questions.

Rachel Webb-Wiles - Looking for Interim Legal Support? | The Legal Director
Rachel Webb-Wiles

What kind of support can TLD offer?

Dagmar: TLD provides experienced in-house lawyers, who can join the business at short notice and provide immediate support on a range of issues, without supervision and with minimum time needed to be taken to explain the position. I recently worked with a client providing interim support to a larger legal team (see the Case Study here), and they were surprised at the level of experience which was available at short notice.

How does this compare to the traditional law firm model?

Rachel: In my experience, private practice law firms don’t like to provide one person on an interim assignment/secondment to a business for an extended period of time, as it creates resourcing issues for them. If they can support with a secondee, it tends to be a more junior person or even several different people. That’s disruptive for businesses and still requires a lot of input trying to get that resource up to speed.

TLD can provide one lawyer for interim legal support for as many days a week or month that you need, and the fee per day is often much less than a larger law firm would charge for a senior lawyer.

Dagmar: As our lawyers are all-rounders, they can pick up most topics rather than being a very niche or specialised lawyer from other firms. For example, I can cover everything from employment advice to governance, as well as a wide variety of commercial contracts.

How long do I have to commit to?

Rachel: You don’t have to commit to any number of days or to a length of time. If your resource gap is very sudden and unexpected, you may not know how long you need us for so we can agree this on a monthly basis. For example, a TLD lawyer covering a member of your team’s period of absence could support you for one to two days a week, dealing with business-critical issues and triaging other legal work until your team member returns to work.

How soon can a TLD lawyer start?

Dagmar: We can set you up as a client and have someone with you in as little as a week.

What are the main benefits of using TLD over another legal consultancy business?

Rachel:  The main benefits of using a TLD lawyer is that we are all in-house specialists. We have extensive experience of working within business and can slot in immediately with your existing legal team.

Dagmar: All TLD lawyers have also worked at a senior level. We will not require training or supervision and are adept at speaking to commercial stakeholders of all levels, right up to the board.
